Weiner Wins Support of New York League of Conservation Voters

Queens, NY – Today, the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) enthusiastically endorsed Congressman Anthony D. Weiner (D – Brooklyn & Queens) for his reelection to Congress, citing his long-standing record and commitment to the environment.

Throughout his career, Rep. Weiner has been a tireless advocate for environmental protection. From working to improve Gateway National Recreation, the nation's largest urban national park, to helping restore Jamaica Bay's vanishing wetlands, guarding Brooklyn and Queens’ natural beauty has always been one of Weiner's highest priorities.

“New York needs leaders who will fight for a clean-energy future and good green jobs,” said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters. “Anthony Weiner is leading the charge for a safer, healthier environment and a strong, sustainable economy. Washington needs more leaders like Anthony Weiner, and we are proud to endorse him for Congress.”

Just last month, with Hurricane Earl threatening to wreak havoc on New York City's coastline, Rep. Weiner visited Plumb Beach to highlight the dangers residents along the shoreline face as a result of erosion, including rising sea levels and flooding. Last year, Weiner helped secure $2.8 million in funding to restore over 130,000 cubic feet of sand that had washed away along Rockaway Beach, placing nearby communities in danger.

Since its inception in 1989, the NYLCV has been a leading environmental advocacy group, helping to push for public policy that sustains the environment and protects the Earth for future generations.

“I'm honored to receive the support of the New York League of Conservation Voters. The environment is our nation's most treasured resource," Weiner said. "Despite living in the nation’s most densely-populated city, my neighbors in Brooklyn and Queens are blessed with beautiful green spaces, national parks, and waterways – and I will fight so that they continue to be protected for our children."

In his sixth term, Anthony Weiner represents New York’s 9th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Brooklyn and Queens.
